"Type 3 felt hats were made in Great Britain from wool- felt. There is a pair of metal vents on each side of the crown and the edge of the 2 3/4 inch wide brim has three rings of stitching. On the inside is a leather sweat band with two small metal hooks for leather chin strap. This example has all wool puggaree and a New Zealand Artillery hat badge. The sweat band is marked "Hall & Phillips Ltd., Army Contractors, Nuneaton, 1918." - reference from New Zealand Army uniforms and Clothing 1910-1945 by Barry O'Sullivan and Mathew O'Sullivan.
